Alex Hamilton of Great Falls has been charged with soliciting sex from what he believed to be a 14-year old boy, but was actually an undercover police detective.
Hamilton, 30 years old, was charged in District Court on Wednesday with two felony counts of sexual abuse of children.
The criminal charges stem from an alleged text conversation between Hamilton and a Great Falls police detective who was posing as a 14-year-old boy.
The detective posted an ad on Craigslist on July 13th that read “First time Virgin. I’m just coming out and I’m scared.” Court documents state that Hamilton responded to the ad and included his cell phone number in the reply.
The messaging reportedly took place on July 14 and 15, and Hamilton requested pictures of the 14-year-old boy almost immediately, according to the report.
When the detective sent a picture of a “teen age looking boy,” Hamilton responded by saying “No face pics lol that’s how we won’t get caught,” according to court documents.
Court documents state that Hamilton is currently on probation for having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old boy in 2009.
In that case he was convicted of criminal endangerment in a plea deal and received a five-year deferred sentence.
He reportedly violated the conditions of that sentence in 2014, and received a new five-year deferred sentence that would have ended in May 2019.
Court documents note that the the "facts of the previous case are evidence of a pattern of behavior; facets of the prior incident are similar to facets of the current incident, including the fact that a fourteen year old closeted victim is the victim of both offenses."
The charging documents continue: "The defendant's earlier actions illustrate a pattern of targeting young boys for sexual gratification, and manner of targeting the victim in the prior incident is similar to the current case."
Hamilton is charged with sexual abuse of children, and sexual abuse of children (solicitation).
