GREAT FALLS -

Thomas Logan Barger has been charged with felony theft in Great Falls after he allegedly stole a pickup truck.

Court documents state police received a report of the stolen vehicle on Sunday morning from the owner of the vehicle.

The owner told police that he was following his pickup truck on 10th Avenue South; the alleged thief - later identified as Barger - was westbound.

When he was pulled over by police, Barger reportedly told the officer that he had recently bought the truck and it was now in his name. When the officer checked the registration for the pickup, he concluded that it had been stolen, and arrested Barger.

Barger then reportedly changed his story to say that he was just borrowing the truck from a friend to visit his kids.

Barger’s account of how he came into possession of the vehicle changed slightly each time the officer asked him.

A passenger in the truck told police that Barger had said to him that he had received his tax refund and bought the truck the morning it was stolen.

Officers also confirmed that his driver’s license was suspended at the time.

Barger has convictions for misdemeanor theft, and is currently waiting for resolution of felony and burglary and misdemeanor theft charges from last year, as well as a felony theft charge.

Police say that Barger was out on bond for the previous felony charges when he was arrested on Sunday.

Barger is charged with felony theft, and misdemeanor driving while license suspended/revoked.

Prosecutors requested that bail for Barger be set at $10,000.
