On Monday in Seattle, a simple act of kindness made an incredible difference in the life of eight year old Daisy Hader.

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson made a trip to Seattle Children’s hospital and spent some time visiting with the Great Falls native and her family.

“He's a very kind gentle man that lit up Daisy's whole day,” Daisy’s mother Lolly Hader said.

But there was one problem. Daisy is a fan of the Green Bay Packers - the Seahawks' bitter rival. She's particularly fond of linebacker Clay Matthews. Wilson posted a picture of he and Daisy on social media with the caption:

“Daisy lights up the room... She also loves Clay Matthews. I think I need to grow my hair back out...”

Lolly laughed.

“Her aunt Polly is a Packer fan so since Daisy has been a baby, she’s liked Green Bay,” said Hader. “She knows Russell from the Seahawks but she also knows him from the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. He got slimed this year and dressed up like a grandma. So they talked about him getting slimed and he was talking to her in his grandma voice so she was laughing.”

And Daisy loves to laugh. She loves to smile too. It’s incredible she can even manage a smile given all she’s been through. From a young age, she’s faced  health problems. Some minor, some very severe. So far doctors haven’t been able to pin point an underlying cause.

Early in 2016 Daisy experienced trouble breathing. She went to Seattle Children’s hospital for tests and treatment where she spent her 8th birthday in February. She’s now been there for seven months.

Daisy’s lungs have failed. She’s been intubated since July and Lolly hopes a biopsy scheduled Tuesday afternoon would provide some answers.

“She’s the toughest kid,” Lolly said. “Most things she’s smiling through. She’s faced so much and is always resilient when something else pops up. She’s just so brave and strong.”

Support from friends, family and strangers has helped Daisy and the Hader family get through many of the tough times. A GoFundMe account has raised over $17,000 for the family’s travel expenses and medical costs. Both Lolly and her husband Justin are with Daisy full time in Seattle so the funds help offset the time spent away from work.

Daisy’s mother gets emotional thinking of all the visits, prayers, wishes and donations.

“That's so heartwarming to all of us,” she said. “There's so many kind and caring people and that's why we're always proud to tell anybody here where we're from. We say Great Falls, Montana and they ‘say how can you live in such a small town like that?’. And I show them all the letters and messages. We can definitely feel the love and we appreciate what everyone is doing for us back home."

And did Daisy tell her new friend Russell about Montana?

“Of course she did,” Lolly laughed. “He was all smiles.”

And so was Daisy.
