BOULDER -

Emergency crews tackled down a small wildland fire in hot and dry conditions on Boulder Hill on Tuesday.

The fire started on private property at around 10:00 a.m.

Bull Mountain Rural Fire District crews got it under control within 30 minutes.

They believe the fire was started from a campfire or other small man-made fire.

A Montana DNRC helicopter was called in to make sure the fire didn’t spread over the hillside.

While less than an acre was burned, and no structures were damaged,  firefighters said it could have become much more serious.

“For a fire, this is probably one of the worst days, but this fire started before the Red Flag Warning came into effect. If it had happened this afternoon, we probably would have never gotten a handle on it,” said Cory Kirch, Bull Mountain Rural Fire District Chief.

Crews stayed on scene for several hours to mop up the fire and make sure it did not start up again.
