The Copper King Fire erupted on Sunday afternoon and is burning in steep, rocky terrain approximately eight miles east of of Thompson Falls in northwest Montana.

It is burning in the Plains/Thompson Falls Ranger District, according to Lolo National Forest officials.

It has now reached about 200 acres in size.

There are no immediate threats to structures or property from this fire and there are no evacuation orders in place.

Officials say this fire is visible from Highway 200 and nearby communities.

Law enforcement officers are providing traffic control along Highway 200.

Driver are being asked to avoid the area if possible and to not stop along Highway 200 to view the fire.

Two helicopters are providing suppression efforts with bucket drops and being supported by an Air Attack fixed wing aircraft.

A Single Engine Air Tanker (SEAT) is also supporting suppression efforts with retardant drops.

A Type II Incident Management Team has been ordered to assume management of this fire and it is likely to arrive within the next 48 hours.
