The VA clinic at Fort Harrison recently expanded by more than 5,800 square feet.

More than 8,000 people use the current facility, and it's estimated that about half of those patients will use the new clinic.

It will provide 11 additional exam rooms and one procedure room.

The new clinic will use the Patient-Aligned Care Team (PACT) which is comprised of a physician, a nurse practitioner, a registered nurse, and a medical clerk.

Four PACT teams will move into the expanded building when it opens in two weeks.

Chief Nurse Executive Norlynn Nelson hopes the new space will improve efficiency, reduce wait times, and provide better accessibility to women and the disabled.

“We should be able to get patients back into their exam room. They should be able to be seen quicker and then get out the door to improve our access,” said Nelson.

Parking at the VA has also expanded with 22 more regular spots and five more handicap- accessible spots.

The $2.1-million expansion project was first submitted in 2011 and funded for construction in 2015.
