KALISPELL -

Brad Treat was memorialized Thursday with friends, coworkers and his family standing by at Legends Field.

The 38-year-old Flathead Forest Law Enforcement Officer was killed by a bear near Glacier National Park earlier this month.

Perhaps no greater tribute can be bestowed upon a person than the amount of people that are there at the end, the amount of people you have influenced, affected, cared for and care about you.

If that’s true, Brad Treat lead a life worth living, a fact that was echoed by all who spoke at his memorial.

“Although he worked for the Forest Service and not my agency, he was one of us,” said Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry.

“Brad was a man of integrity," said Captain Robert Field. "General MacArthur once said 'Leaders don’t set out to be leaders, they become leaders through their actions.' Brad was a natural leader."

Brad’s uncle and comrade Kyle Johnson announced to the crowd that Forest Service badge #44 would be retired forever and that the road surrounding the Hungry Horse District Office would carry his name.

“His name and his legacy will go on in perpetuity," Johnson said. "It’s so hard to say goodbye, so I’ll say so long. He will live in our hearts and our minds forever. Godspeed my friend, and keep smiling till we meet again.”

The Memorial Service began with an extensive law enforcement procession through downtown Kalispell.
