HELENA -

Jennifer Waites is what some might call a “silent hero.” Waites is also the 2016 911 Dispatcher of the Year.

The Montana Department of Public Health & Human Services will officially recognize Waites on Thursday at the Capitol in Helena, alongside various EMS personnel for distinguished accomplishments.

Waites has worked with Helena's 911 Center for seven years.

Waites serves as the "first, first responder" to a slew of medical emergencies happening in the Helena area day-in, day-out.

Waites performs a variety of duties, sometimes dealing with multiple calls at the same time, relaying information to responding units as efficient as possible in order to save lives.

Waites said she's honored to be recognized as 911 Dispatcher of the Year but admits it's a team effort.

Waites said, “Just knowing that you're here and you can make someone else's day a little bit better and get the help that they need is really beneficial for everyone involved.”

The award ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at the Capitol rotunda.
