HELENA -

A major upgrade to Helena's north side commercial hub is underway.

Members of the Chamber of Commerce broke ground on the Trinity Center on Thursday morning.

Backers say the 400,000-square foot development located on 100 acres on the north end of Sanders Road will feature, to start, self-storage units and a hotel.

Future phases are scheduled to include a health club, restaurants, open leash dog-park, theaters, and an outdoor ice rink.

Promoters hope the center will service local and out of town customers.

"You know, this is the mid-way point from Glacier to Yellowstone," said site manager Tyler Wilkinson. "And the amount of Canadian traffic that travels through and by here without stopping is the traffic we are hoping to bring into this community. To eat here, to sleep here, to stay here, to enjoy Helena."

The Catholic Diocese of Helena Deposit and Loan Restoration Trust is developing the center.

It's part of a court-ordered plan to compensate victims of past sexual abuse at the Diocese.
