HELENA - Tourism officials in Helena hope to harness hashtag power to bring more business to the Capital City.

The Helena Tourism Alliance has started placing "selfie spots" around town, giving locals and visitors the chance to take a selfie at historic Capital City landmarks and share the results on social media with the hashtag #HelenaMT.

Alliance officials say boosting selfie shares on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook will get visitors to search for Helena and find that it's a great place to stay.

She noted, "Maybe if they weren't planning on staying in Helena, and are driving through maybe from one park to another national park and search our hashtag and they see all these different things to see and do in Helena, and therefore want to come and spend more time here."

The HTA says that current selfie spots feature the new exhibit, “Our Forgotten Pioneers: The Chinese in Montana” at the Montana Historical Society; the Herd Bull outside the Montana Historical Society; the Montana State Capitol; the Women's Mural; the Firetower; and Reeder's Alley.

Additional selfie spots will soon grace the Newsboy and Bullwhacker statues in the walking mall, the Great Northern Town Center Carousel, and the Helena Regional Airport.
