HELENA -- Howard Chilcote, 34 of Helena, is accused of downloading child pornography appeared in Lewis & Clark County District Court Wednesday.

Chilcote entered a no contest plea to six of seven felony counts of sexual abuse of children.

Chilcote is not admitting guilt but accepting punishment if convicted before a jury.

Court documents indicate the alleged criminal activity took place between May and early July of last year. Investigators discovered multiple files containing variations of child pornography on an external hard drive.

Court documents say Chilcote obtained the sexually explicit videos through a file sharing website.

If convicted, Chilcote faces up to 100 years in prison for each charge.

Sentencing in the case is set for May 13.

Chilcote pleaded not guilty to seven counts of downloading child pornography in Lewis & Clark County District Court Wednesday.

The maximum punishment on each count is 100 years in prison and a fine of $10,000.

This summer, investigators found more than 50 computer files depicting adults having sex with children in Chilcote's possession.

Chilcote's lawyer argued for lower bond in the case, which was set at $250,000.

Judge Mike Menahan lowered bond to $150,000, but with several conditions including forbidding the suspect from having contact with children or access to the internet.

Trial in the case has been set for December 15.
