Traffic stop leads to pursuit, second stop in Helena

Helena police are investigating an incident that included a police pursuit on Sunday.

A police officer made what seemed to be a routine traffic stop on Sunday afternoon; when the officer approached the vehicle, the driver sped away.

A brief pursuit was then launched, but the driver got away.

The car was registered to a Billings resident, where the owner is noted to have owned a gun, according to police.

Several hours later, a different officer saw the same vehicle and pulled it over at the Dollar Tree parking lot.

Five police officers and two Sheriff's deputies were at the scene, some with guns drawn, as the vehicle occupants got out of the vehicle.

None of the occupants of the vehicle were the same man from the first stop that got away.

Authorities are continuing their investigation.

We will update you as we learn more.
