Helena Police have concluded their investigation into the white powder mailed to the MT Department of Labor & Industry earlier this week, and the substance turned out to be a crushed tablet of medication.

The Lewis & Clark County Attorney's office will not be pressing any charges against the Butte man who mailed the envelope.

Police report that the man received a form from the Department of Labor, filled it out, stuck it in an unsealed envelope, and then gave it to his wife to mail.

The letter then remained in her purse for several days, when a white tablet fell into the envelope. Police believe that through the mail process the tablet was crushed.

They say the "trigger device" was actually a lollipop stick that also fell into the envelope.

The discovery of the then-unknown white substance when the envelope was opened caused a partial evacuation of the DLI building earlier this week, and triggered a response from several agencies, with some responders wearing hazmat suits.
