A group of Helena residents are spending their holiday weekend volunteering for a green cause.
The Student Advocates for Valuing the Environment Foundation - better known simply as the SAVE Foundation - is sponsoring their plastics recycling drive through Monday; the organization hosts the drive the first weekend of every other month.
And this month is the first time it will get to use their new truck.
Trever Brandt, SAVE Foundation driver, noted, "Actually this is a good turn out, part of that is summer heat. A lot of people are drinking soda bottles again, because in the winter time there is a lot less. Even being a holiday weekend I think people are still a the point where they are cleaning out their garages."
Residents can bring type 1 soda bottles, type 2 clear jugs, and type 2 color jugs to the YMCA parking lot.
All the plastic is taken to Pacific Steel and bailed, and then sent back to industry to be recycled.
Volunteers are needed to greet community members and assist them with separating their plastics. To learn more, visit the group's website, call 406-449-6008, or email recycle@savemobile.org.
