The 2010 Census results show that Montana grew at 9.7% during the last decade, with the population currently at 989,415.
The results mean that Montana will remain one of only seven states with only one member in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Montana's Congressional district will remain the most-populated in the country, and the second-largest in terms of area.
Montana's incumbent Representative, Denny Rehberg, issued a statement on Tuesday regarding the Census data:
“It’s a tremendous honor to serve as Montana’s only Representative in the U.S. House, and it’s a responsibility that I do not take lightly. Montanans deserve to be represented accurately, which is why I have always paid careful attention to the input I receive at public listening sessions when I visit each of Montana’s 56 unique counties. Montanans can’t afford for me to simply take marching orders from Party Bosses and hide from them whenever we face a tough issue. It’s my job to represent the Last Best Place and I’ll keep doing that to the very best of my ability.”
Rehberg also noted that the influx of illegal immigrants impact the apportionment of U.S. Representatives, disproportionately benefiting Southern border states at the expense of states like Montana.
