A community vision is finally becoming a reality with the opening of the Placer Pantry in Helena.
Located on Placer Street in the basement of the YWCA, the new pantry will distribute toiletries to those who cannot afford to purchase the items.
Sponsored in part by the Helena Women's Club, the idea is to bring renewed dignity to people who need help with various items.
The YWCA and other partner agencies like Helena Food Share, Good Samaritan, and God's Love shelter say this is long overdue.
Kellie Goodwin McBride, YWCA director noted, "It's not just for the homeless population, it's for those families that are working paycheck to paycheck and having to make that choice between a loaf of bread and shampoo; well, you are going to go with the loaf of bread. It's exciting to be able to open our doors and provide something that we know is a need in the community."
If you'd like to donate to the Placer Pantry, the YWCA is accepting unused shampoo, conditioner, body soap, deodorant, toothpaste and other toiletries.
The Placer Pantry will open this Saturday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am; after that, it will be open each Saturday during that time and on Tuesdays from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm for distribution.
