Over 120 firefighters continued battling the Packer Meadows Fire northeast of Lolo Pass on Tuesday.
Despite the cooler temperatures, the fire has now grown to 150 acres.
An excavator and dozer worked overnight to begin establishing a containment line around the fire.
Fire officials say crews made good progress, especially considering the windy conditions that they experienced.
Late Monday evening the fire burned actively in dense lodgepole pine stands. Officials say some torching and spotting was also reported.
Fire officials are still not releasing a containment percentage at this point; they expect to continue fire suppression efforts over the next several days on this fire.
