A drive-by shooting in Glasgow has sent a hitchhiker to the hospital and landed Christopher Lloyd Danielson III in custody.
The West Virginia hitchhiker, identified as 39 year old Raymond Dolin, suffered non-life threatening injuries after being shot in the arm.
The incident happened at around 6 p.m. on Saturday at a historical marker west of Glasgow on Highway 2.
Valley County authorities say 52-year-old Danielson pulled up alongside Dolin and shot him.
Danielson then left the scene.
Authorities say Dolin sustained a single gunshot wound in the arm, but was able to flag down help and was then transported to the hospital in Glasgow.
Danielson was later found and arrested east of Glasgow in Culbertson.
Valley County Sheriff Glenn Meier says the incident is strange considering the two didn't know each other.
Meier stated, "It appears to be an absolute random event. They did not know each other. They did not have a confrontation. He just drove up there and shot him. We're unclear as to why."
Danielson is being held on the suspicion of felony assault with a weapon and driving under the influence.
UPDATE, Tuesday, June 12: The Valley County Sheriff's Office issued a press release on Monday stating the suspect's first name is Christopher, not "Charles" as they originally reported.
UPDATE, June 15: Dolin has confessed that the gunshot wound he suffered was actually self-inflicted. Valley County Sheriff Glen Meier tells us that Dolin confessed on Thursday night to shooting himself. Click here for details.
