A Helena man died in a small-plane crash just north of town on Monday afternoon.
Emergency crews were notified of the downed plane at 12:12 p.m. on Monday.
The plane went down north of Lincoln Road off of Glass Drive east of I-15 on property owned by John Baucus.
A witness said that he saw the plane "spiral down" five times before hearing it crash.
Lewis & Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton said the pilot was qualified to be flying the small one-engine plane.
County Coroner Mickey Nelson says that the man was 51 years old, but the man's name has not yet been released.
Inital reports indicate that no one else was on board the plane.
The cause of the crash is not yet known; the Federal Aviation Administration will be investigating the crash.
