It's been a deadly weekend on Montana roadways, with fatal accidents reported in Red Lodge, Belgrade and Glendive.
In Red Lodge, a North Dakota man died after an accident involving a deer. The Montana Highway Patrol says the motorcyclist was driving on Highway 212, near mile marker 71 around 8:30 pm last night, when a deer jumped out on the road and the two collided. The rider was transported to Red Lodge Hospital where he died. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet. MHP says speed and alcohol were not factors in the fatal crash.
Meanwhile, a crash in Belgrade early Sunday morning sent four people to the hospital and killed the driver of the vehicle. MHP says troopers responded to Interstate 90 East near mile marker 296.6 around 1:50 Sunday morning. Troopers say the vehicle was heading East on I-90, when the driver drifted to the median, over corrected and rolled the car. The vehicle came to rest in the eastbound lane of I-90.
All occupants were ejected except for a female passenger. The 20-year-old male driver from Bozeman died due from his injuries. All four passengers were taken to Bozeman Deaconess. Investigators believe alcohol was a factor in the fatal crash and are unsure if speed was a factor. Troopers say no one was wearing a seat belt.
A Billings teenager is dead after an accident near West of Glendive. It happened around 4:17 Sunday morning on Interstate 94 and mile marker 209.7. Authorities say a 13-year-old female from Billings was the driver of the vehicle and had a 14-year-old passenger from Billings was in the car with her.
According to a report, the teen was heading eastbound on I-94 when she came to a construction zone and lane closure, which diverted her into the left lane. The driver attempted to pass a vehicle in the median and lost control of the vehicle, entering the roadway in front of the other vehicle. The vehicle landed in the westbound lane of traffic. Both teens were wearing seat belts, however the driver did not survive the accident. Troopers say speed was a factor in this fatal crash.
