The picture says it all - a grizzly bear chasing a bison.
When the web producer at sister station KTVQ in Billings saw the photo on Tuesday, he posted it to the Q2 Facebook page and decided to look into the authenticity of the picture.
He spoke with Yellowstone National Park West District Ranger Michael Keator, who told him that the picture is indeed authentic.
According to Keator, the dramatic photo (click image to enlarge) was snapped by a park employee in April 2010, between the Madison Junction and Old Faithful, in the Fountain Flats area.
There is some speculation that the photo was snapped earlier than that, but it can't be confirmed.
The original estimates of the size of the two mammoth beasts put the bison in the range of 1,600 pounds, and the grizzly at more than 800 pounds. Yellowstone National Park bear biologist Kerry Gunther thinks that those estimates are too high.
