Several protesters are demonstrating in the Capitol in Helena right now.
A press release received on Tuesday claimed that "...six activists from Earth First! and Northern Rockies Rising Tide have risked arrest by occupying Governor Schweitzer's office in an act of non-violent civil disobedience."
In the press release, Peter Dolan of Great Falls says, "If the Governor has his way, Montana will be transformed into what is essentially an energy extraction colony for Big Oil. The Silvertip spill is simply a short preview of what this would mean for the lives and livelihood of all Montanans."
The protesters are brandishing signs that read "Oil Spills, Oil Kills" and "Tar Sands Kill - RIP Yellowstone."
Several demonstrators also scaled the flag poles outside the building to drape a large banner.
Shortly before noon, Governor Brian Schweitzer announced that has agreed to meet with the protesters.
Reporter Melissa Anderson is on the scene and we will update you shortly.
