August was the worst month since 1982 for new car sales across America, but in central Montana, sales numbers have remained steady.
Experts believe a big part of the the reason behind the national slide is a fear of another economic recession.
But, just like the housing market, the Great Falls area has not seen a decline in auto sales.
David Krebs, sales manager at Bennett Motors, said, "All of our lines did really well. GMC, Subaru, Hyundai, Nissan and Volkswagen all had decent numbers. The month of August had a slow start which we put towards the great turnout at the State Fair, but we had a strong finish."
Krebs expects auto sales to continue as usual as we head into the fall.
Nationally, GM's sales in August fell an estimated 7% from July, and an even sharper 25% drop from August of 2009, when sales were boosted by the government's "Cash For Clunkers" program. Ford saw sales slip 5% from July.
