Capps charged in morning Great Falls crash that sent 3 to Benefis

Alcohol and speed are likely factors in an accident in Great Falls on Wednesday that left one person with life-threatening injuries.

Two vehicles collided shortly after 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of 15th Street North and 8th Avenue North.

Collision injures three in Great FallsA van carrying one passenger was struck in the middle of the intersection when a car driven by Wesley Capps ran a red light and hit the drivers' side door. Both vehicles were sent off the road knocking over an electric pole.

The driver of the van was transported to Benefis where he underwent surgery for serious injuries.

Capps, who received minor injuries, is now facing four charges, including felony negligent vehicular assault, reckless driving, and failure to stop for a red light.

The passenger of the van was also treated for injuries that are not considered life threatening.


(Initial report, 9:15 a.m.) An early-morning crash in Great Falls has sent one person to the hospital with what are described as life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred near the intersection of 15th Street and 8th Avenue North around 7:30 a.m. (update: new information from GFPD indicates the accident occurred at 6:38 a.m.)

All three people involved in the accident were transported to Benefis, and the driver of the mini-van has life-threatening injuries.

Initial reports indicate that the driver of the car was driving under the influence of alcohol and may face criminal charges.

Traffic was re-routed for several hours, and Sergeant Eric Baumann of the Great Falls Police Department noted, "There was a lot of debris that needed to be cleaned up. We also have a state owned light pole that appears to have some damage as well as a telephone pole owned by the power company."
