A 22-year-old man was rushed to the hospital in Butte and later transferred to a Missoula hospital for injuries sustained in a fireworks incident.

Emergency crews were dispatched to a residence on Grizzly Trail near Rocker at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Butte-Silver Bow Sheriff John Walsh. Walsh says the man was injured when a tube filled with a firework blew up.

He is being treated for serious injuries to his face, neck, and eyes.

The sheriff wants to remind residents of the dangers of fireworks.

"I'm just basically trying to get out the point that these things are not to be changed in anyway shape or form. Use them properly and be safe with them because they can do pretty good damage to an individual if used improperly," Walsh said.

Fireworks are allowed through midnight July 5. Those causing a disturbance with fireworks after 11 p.m. could be cited by police.
