Adam Schweitzer, father of Governor Schweitzer, passes away
Adam Schweitzer, father of Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer, passed away on Friday, December 4, at the age of 89.
Adam was born May 15, 1920 in Goldstone, Montana to Michael and Francisca Schweitzer. The Schweitzer's came to America from the Ukraine in 1909.
On September 24, 1946 Adam married Kathleen McKernan of Box Elder. Together they farmed and ranched north of Gilford and later near Geyser. He served in World War II and helped form the Montana Beef Performance Association.
Governor Schweitzer described his father as a hardworking businessman with little formal education but a knack for organizing and for modernizing his ranching practices.
Adam Schweitzer died in Helena of natural causes, and is survived by his wife Kay and their six children: Darwin, Warren, Mike, Brian, Walter and Mary.
