$20,000 in unclaimed lottery funds will expire soon

There is $23,000 in unclaimed Lotto winnings from the Montana Lottery, and the deadline to claim the prizes is coming up at the end of September.

Here are the specifics on those unclaimed tickets:

Wild Card

  • Purchased Feb. 15, 2012
  • $5,000
  • Michael's Exxon 1645 Highway 93 S., Kalispell
  • Expires Aug. 15, 2012

Wild Card

  • Purchased March 7, 2012
  • $5,000
  • Albertsons
  • 30 S. 3rd E., Malta
  • Expires Sept. 7, 2012

Mega Millions

  • Purchased March 30, 2012
  • $10,000
  • Town Pump
  • 716 E. Park St., Livingston
  • Expires Sept. 30, 2012

Daniel Iverson from the Montana Lottery said that there are a variety of reasons why tickets go unclaimed: "They either come in or totally miss out on it and it can happen for any number of reasons...but you know they could forget to check their numbers after the drawing, or maybe they don't normally play and they forgot they bought a ticket in the first place and it can be more deliberate than that, too sometimes they want to get financial advise if it's a big prize that's going to make a major change in their life."

Iverson said that nearly $1.1 million in unclaimed lottery funds go to the state of Montana every year.
