The star of the Travel Channel's "Man vs. Food" took on a five-pound stromboli in Butte over the weekend.
Host Adam Richman was in the Mining City to film a segment at Trimbo's Off the Hook Pizza on Park Street. He travels the country sampling foods unique to each area and he highlights each episode with an eating challenge, such as Trimbo's Jumboli Stromboli.
The stromboli is stuffed with ingredients like ricotta cheese, spinach, pepperoni and salami. It costs about $30, and if you finish it, you don't have to pay.
Several people have attempted the Jumboli Stromboli (see below), but none have succeeded in finishing the Herculean task within the allotted time - so the title of being the first to win could still be open to any takers.
Restaurant manager Jennifer Hardman wouldn't say if Richman was the first person to successfully conquer the dish.
We'll find out, though, when the episode airs on September 21st.
(July 8, 2010) It's a challenge worthy of the Travel Channel's "Man Vs. Food" - a five-pound Jumboli Stromboli from Trimbo's Pizza in Butte.
It's been around for two years and so far, no one has ever finished eating one, but three guys gave it a try Wednesday night.
The rules of the Jumboli Stromboli: one person must consume the entire stromboli in one hour, and competitors are not allowed to leave the table, but they can get up and stretch.
The stromboli contains ingredients like ricotta cheese, spinach, pepperoni and salami. It costs about $30, and if you finish it, you don't have to pay.
The three guys who tried on Wednesday night - Matt Esquibel, Calen Anderson, and Ryan Christianson - gave it their best shot, but still had to shell out $30 each after no one was able to finish. The competitor who came the closest to finishing his stromboli left a little less than two pounds of the dish.
Since they couldn't defeat the Jumboli Challenge, the title of being the first to win it is still open to any takers.
